SkyPro XGPS160 GPS Receiver arriving today
« on: December 02, 2016, 10:51:26 am »
I have a SkyPro XGPS160 GPS Receiver arriving today from Amazon. This is a skid resistant brick that can be put on any karts bottom plate and receive multiple GPS signals to provide lap timing within 1/10 of a second. It connects to my iPhone via Bluetooth and using Harry's LapTimer application we should be able to use qualifying times to set the race orders next year. I may try to find a used iPad that we can use in place of my phone to see the lap timings and details.

My early Christmas Present.

With the advances in modern science, and my high level of income, it's not crazy to think i'm gonna live to be 250 to 300 years old.

I was able to get lap times from Zen Ridge Oval yesterday using the XGPS160 and my iPhone. Previously just using iPhone GPS (single sat) the application would get confused because my oval track is narrow. The start/finish would trigger in either direction because of the narrow track and limited accuracy of iPhone GPS. Using the XGPS160 (15 sats) the accuracy is much greater and the application is able to handle the narrow corridor. If I can get it to work on my oval track it should work well on all the others. The non-skid pad didn't work too well and slid on kart bottom plate. I took it out of skid pad and just put the unit in my pocket and it worked well. It's about the size of a tin of mints and can be put in any racers pocket to obtain laps times. Now just need to work on getting and iPad to pair with it.
